The Navettes started in October 2015 and are an Indie/Alternative band influenced by bands such as The Cure and The 1975. Having played in some of Manchester’s most acclaimed venues such as Club Academy, Soundcontrol and The O2 Ritz it’s no surprise their most recent single “Please” was featured on BBC Introducing Merseyside. The band is formed of Tom Owen- Lead singer, Guitar, Abbey Stanley- Lead singer, Chris Storer- Drums, Gavin Smith- Lead Guitar and Ben Holmes- Bass.
This single starts with a massive, thumping drum and guitar wall of sound which settles into a catchy, harmonic whar whar from the guitars and drums. A sparkling guitar underpins Abbey’s vocals which are incredibly pure and light. The single makes me think of The Brand New Heavies and Back to the Planet from the 90’s.
In the chorus we get harmonies from Abbey and Tom which give the single depth and texture, this combined with the fuzzy guitars.
Tom takes over the vocals in the second verse but with highlighted accents from Abbey, The vocal sharing swings back and forth between the Abbey and Tom and reminds me of a conversation, that I guess is what this track is about.
All the way through this track you have fuzzy, atmospheric guitars and drums that build and add flavour.
I can see this single doing really well on the radio, it could be an anthem for the summer, with its pure sound and head nodding, very catchy tune. I have had it on repeat since getting it and I am sure it will stay in my playlist for a long time.
